September 5th of every year is celebrated as Teachers Day in India. This special day is dedicated to the teachers and to their contributions in shaping a student’s life. On this day, a great Indian philosopher and Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan were born. Teachers Day is being celebrated all over the world on this day since 1962.  Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the first vice president of India and later he becomes president of India after Rajendra Prasad.

After becoming president of India, some of his friends requested him to celebrate his birthday. But he insisted to observe 5th September as Teachers Day instead of celebrating his birthday. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was awarded Bharat Ratna in the year 1931 and he was also nominated for Nobel peace prize for several times.

The celebration of the teacher’s day started when his followers had requested him to celebrate his birthday on 5th September. At that particular time, Dr. Radhakrishnan was a teacher. Then he replied with a great expectation that instead of celebrating his birthday, it would be a better prerogative if September 5th is observed as teacher’s day. From that particular day, every 5th of September is celebrated as a teacher’s day.

The main motive of this celebration is to tribute respect and honor to the teachers. A teacher is one of the important parts of human life who learns guides and shows the right path towards success, from kids to the old one. They inculcate punctuality and discipline to every learner and students because they are the future of the nation. They decorate each and every corner of their room very colorfully and organized special events, cultural programs. It is the only and most particular day that provides a break from the traditional usual school days. On this day students welcome all their respective teachers and schedule a meet to talk about the day and their celebration. Students gift very beautiful presents to teachers, feed sweets and show their indebtedness galore of love and respect for their contribution.

In shaping a country’s good future, the role of a teacher cannot be denied. So, it is necessary to put aside a day to show the great respect they deserve.
